CASE STUDY
Pedestrian Improvements Along Autopilot Drive at Dulles International Airport (IAD)
Klein Engineering, PSC worked with RDM International, Inc. (RDM) on the improvement of two signalized intersections along Autopilot Drive, in Dulles International Airport.
The Challenge: The addition of accessible pedestrian systems to the signalized intersections of Autopilot Drive with Aviation Drive, and Autopilot Drive and Rudder Road are part of the improvements to pedestrian facilities along Autopilot Drive, which include a new sidewalk that extends from Aviation Drive until North of Rudder Road, and provides pedestrian crosswalks for safer crossing at intersections.
How we helped: Klein Engineering supported RDM with the design of the corresponding modifications to the existing traffic signals, and in preparing erosion and sediment control plans that comply with the guidelines and regulations presented by MWAA. KEPSC also supervised and supported MWAA during the project’s construction.
Results: The project was completed on time and under budget. Furthermore, it was constructed and is operational for the benefits of its users.
